Machine Operator

We currently have an opening for a Machine Operator at our mill. Previous experience with mill equipment is not a requirement; in-house training will be provided. Experience on any industrial/farm equipment is an asset.

Location: Seguin Ontario, at the Parry Sound Municipal Airport

Responsibilities:
● Wool & fibre handling, sorting, grading
● Wool & fibre mill machinery operation and maintenance
● Liaise with farmers and the public as required
● Work with others and independently as required
● Perform other mill operations as required
● Able to lift/bend/stretch and work in a mill environment
● Able to work around animal fibre (sheep wool, alpaca, mohair etc.)
● Able to work around machine grease, oils and soaps etc.

Qualifications:
● Possess high mechanical aptitude
● Fibre and spinning/ weaving equipment experience an asset, but not required
● Industrial/factory experience an asset, but not required
● Must be able to read and write in English
● Must have basic math skills
● Comfortable with operating large equipment
● Must be able to work legally in Canada and must reside in Northern Ontario

Administrative Assistant 

Responsibilities – including, but not limited to:

  • Work closely with mill owner 
  • Organize and operate duties of the front office: reception/telephone, emails, post packaging, ordering, billing etc.
  • Respond to and manage social media accounts and newsletters
  • Create forms, charts, flyers, signs etc.
  • Organize and manage upcoming workshops and special events
  • Manage web page and e-commerce site
  • Oversee, and occasional participation in, retail operation
  • Operate POS
  • Create and print labels for retail and mill operations
  • Create posters, signs, cards…(Canva or InDesign) 
  • Research grants, write proposals and maintain funding budget
  • Other duties as needed to keep owner informed, organized and current

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Strong aptitude/experience with computers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Attention to detail and quality, willingness to learn new skills
  • Problem solving and multi-tasking ability 
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to work and learn independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet all deadlines
  • Strong time management, written and verbal communications skills
  • Must have basic math skills 
  • Experience in retail and e-commerce an asset
  • Experience with WordPress and Woo Commerce, Square, Mailchimp, Canva, InDesign, social media platforms or equivalent
  • Experience with fibre/textiles an asset but not required
  • Must be physically able to work around animal fibre

Regular work days at the Mill are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Occasional weekends for special events as needed. Other policy information is set out in the Employee Handbook.  Health and Safety information is set out in the Employee Health & Safety Handbook.

Internship and Artist in Residence Programs

We are developing partnerships with educational institutions to provide internships and artist in residence opportunities here at the mill. If you are interested in becoming an intern or artist in residence, please contact us.

Volunteer Opportunities

Wave Fibre Mill is always welcoming volunteers! Volunteer work may include assisting with small batch dyeing, sewing garments, dressing the looms, skirting wool, labeling and more.
