We are back after the lengthy break over the holidays! We are rested. The equipment, thoroughly cleaned before the break, is fresh and ready to go again.
January is traditionally the time where we look back over the last 12 months. We have been busy!
Events, workshops, fashion shows, festivals, new products, presentations and talks…never a dull moment.
The response to natural, local, responsible, biodegradable garment, toys and housewares is very positive and growing.
You, the community, have been very supportive and affirming. We thank you for that.
Several of the farmers that we process for are selling their yarn and roving
at the big National fibre festivals, increasing the availability of 100% Canadian wool.
I can not be more proud of our staff, the people who strive for excellence, and their part in making this happen!
We have added administration staff. I would like to introduce you to Tylin who you will meet, along with Berny, on the phone or in emails.
I find the best way to pass through winter is to fill it with interesting activity, shared with interesting people.
Check out our workshops. At the moment, there is one opening in Nina’s Beginner Weaving workshop. In February, Joy is teaching a bookbinding
course and the guild is hosting a cable knitting workshop.
Teaching is also an option if you have a skill that you are willing to share.
Our WOW challenge registration is open and we are planning this year’s Gala and Vendor’s Festival.
This is where we have fun making items from Ontario sourced materials. Applications are online or accessible via the link in our Newsletter.
I am often asked why I do what I do? I am not sure that this is an answerable question, but I do strive to simply create beauty and instill hope where I can. A small drop in the bucket perhaps, but it is the many small drops that make a bucket run over.
My heartfelt best wishes to you all throughout the coming year.

Holiday Machine Cleaning
We spent the week before our Holiday break giving our machinery some TLC!
Pictured above are some photos of ‘Randy’ our Rando-Feeder taken apart, having her tines and belts cleaned!
We also removed all of the strippers and workers from ‘Cardy’ our Carder, and gave all of her rollers a thorough power wash!
Everything is sparkling, put back together, and ready to continue processing our clients’ gorgeous fibres!
It’s no small job, but an essential part of ensuring our machinery is working at its best!
Entries are now open for the 2026 Wave Ontario Wardrobe Challenge!

Additions to the flock at Pondering Rock!
We recently brought three new ewes to join our flock at Pondering Rock Farm!
Framboise, Fennel, and Cassie are each a Blue Faced Leicester cross.
All the girls are getting along well and we’re so happy to see them settling in!
Maker’s Guild
The ladies of the Fibre Mill Makers Guild will be starting the new year off on Saturday February 7 at 11am with a knitting workshop. If you have basic knitting experience and are ready to add cabling to your skill set please join us at the Mill. Bring along a ball of chunky yarn and a set of knitting needles size 5 to 7 if you have them handy.
- If you don’t have appropriate yarn or needles, no sweat. We have lots of extras available on the “sharing wall”.
- If you are a more experienced knitter and already know how to cable please join us to assist our cable novices. We would enjoy your company.
- If you are not a Guild member but are interested, please come and see what we’re doing. Everyone is welcome.
We will be making a cabled headband, so not only do you go home with a new skill, you could have a cozy headband to keep you snug this winter.
Please bring along your lunch.

New members are always welcome!
We have weekly Sunday drop-in makers sessions and one event, workshop or presentation each month.
A yearly membership is $40 which includes a 10% discount on makers’ supplies at the Wave Fibre Mill retail store. Please contact wfmguild@gmail.com to enquire.
For sheep lovers! We have a farmer looking to downsize their flock and rehome 5-10 ewes. They are BFL crosses with soft, long-stapled 6-9”, textured fleeces, with grey and brown tones. They have been shearing almost twice a year, depending on the staple length needed.
The sheep have great fleeces for felting, hand spinning, commercial spinning, and fibre crafts. These ewes are used to being outdoors all day in the Summer and Winter and being moved by a Border Collie.
If anyone is interested in the breeding flock please get in touch with us at Wave Fibre Mill.
