Well – What a summer of heat we have been having!
We need to think fondly of it next February, but for now we are feeling its effects!
July has been very full with our Gala and 3rd Anniversary Festival taking up most of the month. Our Carder was sung in with a live orchestral version of ‘Happy Birthday’, rotating tours kept up all day, cold watermelon and iced lemon water cooled off everyone – as well as a chance to sit in the cool, quiet garage listening to the orchestra. We also had double the vendors with an amazing cross section of wares!
The Friday night WOW Gala was a lot of fun, with the models choosing their own “looks”. It was a delight seeing combinations of our garments that I would not have thought of!
First prize winner of the WOW Challenge was Sandy Harris with her wool shift, felted wool ful-length vest, and wool / found material shrug.
Second place was Pauleen Cusack who raised her own sheep and felts long lock shawls, scarves, and hats.
Third place was Rita Stafford using the roving from her sheep to “stuff” and quilt a vest from scraps of men’s suits.
The judges were hard pressed and the scores were incrediby close. A wonderful showing!
When the 2025 catalogue is in print we will make it available!
I want to express heartfelt thank yous to those who participated; vendors, models, competitors, judges, Whispering River Orchestra, Parry Sound Municipal Airport, guild volunteers and cookie makers, and our caterer!
I hope that your are all swimming a lot and eating copious amounts of cold watermelon!

Maker’s Guild
Our Makers Guild was beautifully represented in the WOW Challenge with three of our members sharing their artistry this year. Not only did we have outstanding quality entries, but our entrants also showed up to proudly display their work on the runway on Friday’s Gala night. Gathering in celebration of creativity is powerful juju. I was pleased to see so many of our members and your friends/family in attendance.
The celebratory vibe was definitely strong on Saturday, unwilted by the +30C temperatures. Once again, our Guild was front and centre with a booth in the middle of the fair ground and lots of examples of our creations.
Thank-you especially to Merry B who inspired fellow Guild members to brave the heat and join the celebration in the Guild booth. To all of you who attended, either as participants in the booth, or who dropped by to enjoy the fair in other ways — Thank-you.
Ready to join the guild? New members are always welcome. We have weekly Sunday drop-in makers sessions and one event, workshop or presentation each month.
