“Hooray, it’s May – the Merry month of May….”
We have linen bug jackets, wool light weight summer scarves and blankets in the store! Our One of a Kind blankets accented with colourful natural dyes, are perfect for around the bonfire or on the porch watching the stars!
We are madly preparing for two major events in June. I speak at the World Fashion Summit June 6th and 7th in Toronto and have a full contingency of models on RunwayTO June 21st (details below).
Our WOW Challenge participants have submitted their entries and the judges are tallying up their scores. We have 14 participants this year who have really outdone themselves!
As per last year, we will be publishing a catalogue of the pieces. It will be available at the event and as a pre-order for $40 each.
I’d like to share an article clearly defining some of the issues facing Canadian wool farmers today: https://www.countrylifeinbc.com/bc-wool-value-volume-drop/
Wave
On June 6th and 7th, 2025, the World Sustainable Fashion Summit in Toronto will bring together industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers to accelerate the transition to ethical and sustainable fashion practices, creating a more responsible and regenerative fashion industry.
Wave Weir, founder of Wave Fibre Mill, is thrilled to participate as a speaker, joining the summit’s mission to unite the global fashion community in a collective effort to transform the industry into a force for good. Wave will share her expertise and passion for sustainable fashion, advocating for practices that benefit people and the planet.
Maker’s Guild
In April Makers gathered around the large work table upstairs at the Mill to create placemats, rugs, runners and baskets using only strips of scrap fabric and a large crochet hook.
May 10 we’re looking forward to learning some ways to create using raffia. All the fibre that we’ll need will be supplied. If you are joining us please bring along a large-eyed bodkin or blunt darning needle if you have one handy. Wooden beads with a largish hole can be incorporated into the work as well, if you have any in your stash.
Together we’ll learn a raffia weaving technique while making a coaster or two.
In June members will be busy preparing for the July Anniversary Celebration at the Mill.
Plans for August include learning the basics of card/tablet weaving while making a bookmark. Stay tuned for details.
Not a member, but think you might like to see what we’re all about? We have weekly Sunday drop-in sessions and one event, workshop or presentation each month. Our yearly membership of $40 includes a 10% discount on makers’ supplies at the Wave Mill retail store.
