Well, the garden and vegetable stand are both in. A true signal that we are about to enter our winter season. It has been a glorious fall!
The mill focus over the past few months has been the preparation for our participation at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. We will be packing the vehicles soon and transporting a piece of our magical little store to Toronto. With that in mind, our in-store shopping for the first two weeks in November will be spread about. If you want that particular yarn, or one-of-a-kind jacket, please speak before we pack it up for the fair.
For those visiting us during the period of November 7th to November 16th, please know that our inventory in the store will be sparce. Most of our products will be brought with us to Toronto for the Royal Winter Fair.
Visitors are always welcome, and we are still available to take orders for garments, makers’ materials, and yarns!
If you’re visiting the Royal Winter Fair, stop by our booth in the Northern Ontario Pavilion. We will have a great selection of Ontario-made wool products!
Following the Royal, we will again be at the Parry Sound Christmas Show at the Stockey Centre during the last weekend in November. It is hard to believe that we are already talking Christmas!
I had a delightful time with the Parry Sound Horticultural Society last week. As they are gardeners, my presentation was of “Plants to Pants!”. Showcasing the cyclical nature of wool and how it starts with the soil and returns to the soil. (We just happen to borrow it in between, and I believe that is OK if we return it as a nutrient and not a toxin).
I will also be speaking on a panel of; wool enthusiasts, associations, farmers, educators and businesses while in attendance at the Royal. Individuals from across Canada will be meeting to discuss the state of Canadian wool. Campaign for Wool Canada is playing host for this event.
So, I am looking forward to an incredibly full month and then to the pause into the winter months, a time to regroup, celebrate and plan for next year. If you go to the fair, do drop by. There are a few of your neighborhood businesses in the Northern Ontario Pavilion. (Local honey producer “For the Bees” being one).

For sheep lovers! We have a farmer looking to downsize their flock and rehome 5-10 ewes. They are BFL crosses with soft, long-stapled 6-9”, textured fleeces, with grey and brown tones. They have been shearing almost twice a year, depending on the staple length needed.
The sheep have great fleeces for felting, hand spinning, commercial spinning, and fibre crafts. These ewes are used to being outdoors all day in the Summer and Winter and being moved by a Border Collie.
If anyone is interested in the breeding flock please get in touch with us at Wave Fibre Mill.
